Time is just flying around here and I would like to think it’s because we are having so much fun. None the less, it can get a little harrowing for a mama trying to wrap her head around all the things she’d *like* to do for Christmas, plus regular life, plus planning a trip home. Last week I had a few stressful days while I tried to figure out how I would do everything until I had a very sobering phone with my mom, who very wisely said, “You don’t want Christmas to be stressful. You want to enjoy it with the kids.” Thanks mom, it’s so true!

So a few lists later I am feeling pretty good about what I want to do, what I can do and in the meantime Mr. Stone went and picked up the most beautiful Christmas tree!

We also invited a few friends over Friday night and using all the ingredients from our winter CSA share it turned into quite a feast. Pandora.com is keeping our holiday playlist alive and the rental car is booked for next Monday.

Ahhhhh….now where is that eggnog?

I thought it would be great to start a series of Rainy Day blog posts. Thanks to my mom, who was always a fan of the rainy day, I have come to really enjoy these chances to snuggle in right, cook a warm meal, watch movies, do crafts, play music and best of all stay in pajamas all day. Today was a rainy Saturday but we managed to gear up and head to the Farmer’s Market. Luckily ours has a roof so we were able to catch some old time music. Solshine was fascinated with the young girl playing the fiddler. I am so curious to see if he will express interest in learning an instrument.

After buying some local, grassfed meats for the week, and of course a few delectable treats we headed home to clean, listen to music and have spontaneous magic shows! Solshine started being the magician for a few of his favorite “friends” and then he joined the audience while Dad entertained the family with some of his own magic tricks.

Pasta for dinner, family movie night and wine and chocolate for later. Yup, a great rainy day.

Today was a really exciting day! The morning started out normal enough until I realized it was election day which immediately prompted me to not only start dancing around my kitchen but also to get dressed immediately. And all this before 9 am!

The morning was full of high energy as I started to explain to my four year old what it meant to vote and answer a gazillion adorable questions about presidents, elections and such. Who knew a four year old would be so interested in politics! Before we knew it lunch was over and walked to the corner to meet some friends so we could all walk to our neighborhood polling place together.

It was almost impossible to deny to Obama fever and we even had a neighbor joke that she voted for McCain. Although, not a democrat Obama had my vote so I was feeling pretty hopeful; especially after we walked by this:
"Are we voting for a pumpkin?"

As we pointed out “Obama” to the boys my son asked a very insightful question with his voice full of confusion, “Are we voting for a pumpkin mom?” Ah, the inner workings of a child’s mind never cease to entertain and remind me of the power of perspective. We entered the school gym and I nervously asked to be reminded how to work the incredibly outdated polling machine fully equipped with an automatic closing curtain circa 1962. I sent the boy ahead to snap this picture and as you can tell he was very well aware at the serious nature of our task. We were making history!
